Description
The base of this blend is a fine wine from 1863, of the highest quality, which was aged exquisitely until 1972 in barrels and then bottled in demijohns. The rare and ancient wines that make up this blend, combined with the ageing in demijohns, make this wine unique and with enormous potential for improvement in the bottle
VV was created by Dirk Niepoort’s grandfather (Eduard Marius van der Niepoort) at the beginning of the 20th century. Eduard Marius had a great passion and commitment to quality and, as such, wanted to make the best Tawny in the world and simply call it VV – Old Wine. It ended up becoming a mythical wine and is considered by many to be the best Tawny ever made.
The original blend was, like the new one, made from pre-phylloxera wines, very concentrated and with “unlimited longevity”. The new VV seeks to be all this, but even more precise, balanced and long. It is a wine made with future generations in mind, and with the aim of demonstrating the timelessness of great Port. In Porto Veritas.
