1952 Niepoort Garrafeira Porto

585,00 c/ IVA

Considered by Dirk Niepoort to be the most elegant of all the Garrafeiras produced, this wine is one of the Niepoort Garrafeiras with the darkest color. Great aromatic complexity with notes of raspberry jam, dried fruit, nuts, spices and orange peel. The long finish and pronounced acidity give it an impressive youth and longevity – reminiscent of Madeira or Jerez!

Description

The second generation of the Niepoort family, at the end of the 19th century, had the happy idea of acquiring from a German glassmaker in Oldenburg around 4,000 dark green blown glass demijohns, with capacities ranging from 8 to 11 liters, which today we call “demijohns”. Eduard Karel Jacob van der Niepoort died at an early age and it was his son, Eduard Marius van der Niepoort, Dirk’s grandfather, who disposed of the demijohns, bottling the best wines from the 1931 harvest and thus creating the “Garrafeira Niepoort”. From the distant year of 1931 to the present day, maturation in the demijohns sealed with cork stoppers has been closely monitored and is an almost “sacred” ritual for the Niepoort and Nogueira families. Today, Niepoort is the only producer of the “Garrafeira” style of Port wine. The “Garrafeira” style combines the aromas of barrel ageing with the finesse and elegance of bottle ageing.
